Monday's Music Moves Me: Toys

Today's Monday's Music Moves Me theme is Toys since Black Friday is soon approaching.

Let's just dive into the music!

                                           Aerosmith "Toys in the Attic"

Jeff Beck "Roy's Toy"

Martika "Toy Soldiers"

Joni Mitchell "Shiny Toys"

The Beach Boys "The Man with All The Toys"

A list that starts off rocking and ends with a legendary group at least has good bookend, or in this case songends. Through in an instrumental, a pop song, and Joni not a bad way to fill a list. Toys for your ears on this Monday.

Battle of the Bands: Rocktober,Beatles and more!

Well it is October again. Like I did last year I will theme it to "Rocktober." I heard some radio station call October that many years ago and I like it. I'm sure with November and December my blog will continue with the themes.

Who better to kick off Rocktobermania (yeah, I just made that word up) with than the Beatles. I think "Helter Skelter" is one Beatles song that really rocks!

The Song: Helter Skelter

The Beatles on Vinyl. A classic band played in a classic manner.

Contender One: Aerosmith

Contender Two: Motley Crue

Welcome to my Rocktober party! I am kicking it off in style with the Beatles, Aerosmith and Motley Crue. Your vote decides who wins! Vote for Aerosmith or Motley Crue in the comments. Stay tuned for more Rocktober posts!

Happy Birthday Jimmy Page!

Today is Jimmy Page's 71st Birthday! Two years ago I gave a career spanning blog post for his 69th birthday which you may enjoy. I might do the same today but I don't want to repeat. However, I want to celebrate the music.

The song that has always grabbed me from his Yardbirds days is "Train Kepta Rollin'" ..

Yes I mixed it up with Jimmy guest appearing with Aerosmith! Hey we all like surprises!!
Below is a little Olympic Love with Leona Wilson...

The first time I saw him concert was during his "Outrider" tour...a live version of "Emerald Eyes"

I guess I need to get the Led Out or it would be a "Heartbreaker"

Happy Birthday Jimmy Page!

If you are still looking for more musical fun after you vote, you can check out these sites for more battles:

The Creative Outlet of StratPlayer

Alex J. Cavanaugh

This round song:

"Train Kept A-Rollin'" by Tiny Bradshaw. I actually was able to get the original version this time!

It is October and some have referred to the month as "Rocktober" and with that in mind I present the contestants,

The Yardbirds

VS

Aerosmith

Why this song?

Rock lore has this song as the first song Led Zeppelin performed together. Personally it was one of the songs I searched out after being turned onto Led Zeppelin and seeing where they came from and who their influences were. It also introduced me to the playing of Jeff Beck.

Listen, enjoy, vote in the comments. Visit the other blogs. Come back and visit!

R.I.P Robin Williams

Starting off this post with some highlights of Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam!  If you haven't heard the news Robin Williams has passed away. You can read the depressing news here. It is a shame he died too soon at 63. I am sure he had a few more things he could have done to make us laugh again. I want to celebrate his life. The gift of his performances which he left us.

Here is his first appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson...

Many of us first discovered Robin Williams when he was on Mork and Mindy. You might recognize a younger David Letterman in this clip..

Maybe not the right time for this clip. Then again maybe humor is what we need. Here he performs in a skit with Carol Burnett.

So many movies to choose from.  I think my favorite might be What Dreams May Come. Ms. Doubtfire certainly was funny. What were your favorites?

Thanks for the entertainment may you rest in peace Robin Williams!
