April Blogging A to Z Challenge 2026: J for Jaguars in Belize

I went for a night hike and night tubing trip in the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary.

In this wilderness I did not find a Jaguar, but I did see signs of them. The signs being paw prints and scratch marks in trees and logs. In a remote area in a lagoon, we were treated to the aroma of a place a Jaguar had recently marked. On my trip the only place I saw a Jaguar was in the zoo.

April Blogging A to Z Challenge 2026: I for Iguanas in Belize

Above was a video of the Green Iguana Conservation Project.

I was able to see both types of iguanas while I was in Belize the more common Green Iguana and the Black-Spiney Tailed Iguana. Video below is the Black Iguana.

The adventure in Belize was a great study in Herpetology. Herping in Belize is easy and fun!

April Blogging A to Z Challenge 2026: H is for Hopkins in Belize

I had a couple of daytrips to Hopkins and past it several times. Hopkins is rich in the Garifuna culture which I posted about yesterday. Beach, meets jungle and mountains is a good way to describe the area.

Next a quick tour...

A quick post for today, more to come!

April Blogging A to Z Challenge 2026: F is for Fishing

I like to fish! There were many things I was able to do on my trip and I am extremely fortunate, lucky to be able to do. We did talk about getting a fishing trip together but for whatever reason it didn't happen. It was one of the daytrips I blogged about Saturday that didn't happen.

At the docks by Placencia and in the waters looking for crocodiles we saw plenty of tarpon!

When we went scuba diving, we saw plenty of fish barracudas and sharks included. Also invasive lionfish. We ate at local restuarants deliscious snappers and even lion fish. We did feed local caught fish to the ambassador crocodiles on occasion. When I make it back to Belize, I will certainly book a fishing trip!

April Blogging A to Z Challenge 2026: E is for Easter in Belize

Easter in Belize was my first Holiday religious otherwise spent in a foreign country. What I noticed was how less capitalized the holiday was. I am sure the day was celebrated in the local churches.

Here is a video from a couple of years ago about how Easter is celebrated:

Where I was on the southern coast, the community had a big party night at the local bars and restaurant.  Which makes sense to celebrate and to also mark the end of lent.

Here is a video from 10 years ago, at a place that we stopped by last Easter!

April Blogging A to Z Challenge 2026: D is for Daytrips

Crocodiles were the top reason for my trip to Belize! Beer, new friends and food made the trip special. However, day trips made incredible memories. Sometimes they were trips to where I was going flying in little Cessna airplanes. Adventure trips to relocate a crocodile from the zoo in Belize City, or a trip to neighboring towns, or jungle hikes, tubing trips, and ziplining. My favorite day trip was a scuba diving outage.

Outreach trip to schools and the University of Belize were a great way to gain a better understanding of the culture. All trips were a way to take in more of the scenery. The daytrips all added to the adventure and most days we were on the water somewhere! Trips to the capital to renew passports was an adventure catching a bus then finding alternate transportation back.

There were daytrips and adventures I didn't get to squeeze in during my month in Belize. That certainly makes the urge to go back very strong! Some of the trips I missed will be revealed in later posts.

April Blogging A to Z Challenge 2026: C is for Crocodiles

Crocodiles was the reason I went to Belize. Crocodiles were the driving force behind my adventure. Even though my journey was an adventure there was a journey to my adventure and in my mind the people I was fortunate to meet along the way helped made this adventure and future adventures possible!

There are two types of crocodiles in Belize, Morelet's ad American Crocodiles.

Me with an American Crocodile in a lagoon...

All pictures were with the Crocodile Research Coalition

April Blogging from A to Z Challenge 2026: B is for Belikin

That ice-cold beer I mentioned in the first post was a Belikin. The beer of Belize and after getting through customs which wasn't that awful was just what I needed in the Belize City Airport to calm my nerves.

A video of the Belikin bottling process...

I did try other Belizean brews and Caribbean beers however I found Belikin to be a solid consistent choice and a darn good beer! My opinion based on my own purchased and to my knowledge Belikin is not available to purchase in the United States. Thanks for joining me on my rewind of my adventure and stay tuned for my C post on crocodiles.

Let me know which one you liked the best in the comments! Stick around this month and check out my A to Z posts about my trip to Belize last April.

April Blogging from A to Z Challenge 2026: A is for the Adventure Begins

My trip began a few days earlier than April 1st. It was the grand adventure going to Belize to study crocodiles. The last time I travelled internationally was in another century, another time when a passport wasn't required and it consisted of walking across the border of California into Mexico. The anxiety hit me as a walked across the metal walkway towards the open door of the airplane.

Made my flight in the predawn hours to Atlanta. Where I caught my second flight to Belize City.

All was good until I landed. The form I had filled out earlier online disappeared somewhere in the interwebs. Then I had to fill out a paper for. The wifi connection on my phone was crap, I knew I had instructions on filling out the form but now it was lost. I winged it, they let me in and you know my anxiety needed to drop down via an ice-cold beer! My third flight was a prop plane to where I was staying. The final airport looked like something out of a Miami Vice Episode. There I was waiting outside waiting for my ride.

This is how my adventure began follow along as I rewind my adventure!

Battle of the Bands Results: The Times They Are A Changin' and Tori Amos won a shutout

Tori Amos won the Battle of the Bands 2-0 over Blackmore's Night. We celebrate winners here.

I first became aware of Tori Amos from a girl in California I was crushing on the time. She introduced me to a song called "China"

I got sucked into her "Little Earthquakes." A song a little later on I really like was "1000 Oceans"

What is your favorite Tori Amos song? Share in the comments.

Gearing up for A to Z

April is just around the corner. Last year I didn't participate in the challenge because I spent the month in Belize. I am turning last year's excuse into this year's theme. It was not your normal trip to Belize it was quite the adventure! A whole lot of Crocodiles, culture and in the end a handful of great new friends. So stay tuned as I write about my month in Belize.

Here is a little geography to get you ready:

Battle of the Bands: Battle of the Bands: The Times They Are A Changin' 9 years later

Sometimes I get the idea to use a tune that I have already used in a Battle before. Most recently this happened with Good Rockin' at Midnight luckily I picked completely different covers. This time around I am using a Bob Dylan song "The Times They Are A Changin'" which I used in July of 2017.

I am going to skip with sharing the original song and dive right in with the contenders....

                                                             Contender One: Tori Amos

Contender Two: Blackmore's Night

Let me know which one you liked best in the comments and I will count up the votes and announce the winner in a week or so. Thanks for the visit and welcome to March!

Luka is probably her biggest hit.

"Tom's Dinner"

R.I.P Sonny Jurgensen

I discovered Sonny Jurgensen as a teenager listening to Washington Redskins football games. He had become a broadcaster due to his stellar career with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins.

                                                Highlights:

A championship with the Eagles in 1960, a member of the Eagles Hall of Fame, and the Redskins Ring of Honor and a NFL Hall of Famer.

He is an athlete from an error which probably belonged to my Father's generation, but past down his take of the modern game as a broadcaster. He will be missed by fans, friends and family!

Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl Champions

Last night's Super Bowl proved the saying "Defense Wins Championship." The Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots 29-13,

The Patriots were shutout for three quarters. Teams will tweak their rosters in the offseason with the draft, trades and free agents. Some players will retire. Seattle will hope to defend their championship; New England will hope to challenge again. Stay tuned for the next season stating in August.

As the tradition we celebrate winners here!

                                            Link Wray with "Rawhide"

"Rumble"

R.I.P Jim McBride

You might not know his name but if you are a country music fan you know the songs Jim McBride wrote.

Johnny Lee's "Bet Your Heart on Me"

Keith Stegall "California"

R.I.P Bob Weir

Bob Weir and the Grateful Dead performing "The Last Time" in Landover, Maryland. On January 10, 2026, Bob Weir passed away. A founding member, the youngest member of the legendary band, a member of many Grateful Dead related projects and solo artist will be remembered as a remarkable rhythm guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and musician.

His final performance with Dead & Company "Touch of Grey." Below what might have been his final interview.

To me I saw him several times with the Grateful Dead and I saw him with his Campfire Band and lastly with an orchestra.

A tiny desk concert from NPR. He will be missed but the music he left behind will fill the air for generations to come.
