April Blogging A to Z Challenge 2026: I for Iguanas in Belize

Above was a video of the Green Iguana Conservation Project.

I was able to see both types of iguanas while I was in Belize the more common Green Iguana and the Black-Spiney Tailed Iguana. Video below is the Black Iguana.

The adventure in Belize was a great study in Herpetology. Herping in Belize is easy and fun!

When we made detachment to Puerto Rico, there was this iguana who came visiting that we called "Fluffy." Boy, girl, lol, we had no clue but she/he was very friendly. One early morning, we were on the alert and had to rush to the base in the pre-dawn. As I backed up, I felt a bump. Yep. RIP Fluffy.
To this day (happened twenty-five years ago), if I mention Fluffy, the folks I worked with bow their heads and say a little prayer for the poor little iguana.
