R.I.P Dusty Hill

Dusty Hill was more than a bass player, he was a lead singer, a backing singer, a keyboardist, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, and one third of the legendary rock band ZZ Top! Joseph Michael Hill better known as Dusty will be missed by his family, his bandmates, fans and friends.

Today we celebrate his live, his musical career and  "I Want to Thank You" Mr. Hill...

They were blues they were rock and roll and at some point worked their way into the soundtrack of our lives.

"Got Me Under Pressure"

He was a "Sharped Dressed Man"

"LaGrange"

I could go on and on with the bands long catalog, but that little band out of Texas

has become a lot smaller. Rest in peace Dusty Hill!

Battle of the Bands Results: The Heard Prevails

The Heard won my Battle of the Bands by one vote 4 to 3. Not bad for a short lived, Mid 60s garage band from Texas. Not the biggest band in the world but one with some influence. Don't worry we will celebrate.

                                                   "Stop it Baby"

"Exit 9"

"If You'd Ever Leave Me"

In about a week I will be back with a brand new episode of Battle of the Bands.

A to Z Challenge: ZZ Top

I am ending the challenge with a little Rock and Roll band from Texas. I hope everyone enjoyed the challenge.

Here they are with "Gimme All Your Lovin'"...

I think during the challenge we all wanted a little love for our blogs. Did your blog get the love you were looking for?

This song I am dedicating to Joanne's Word Splash who did a Texas theme during the challenge.

Her L selection was on LaGrange visit it if you would like. I dedicate the next one to all the ladies. I heard this is what you like?

What is your favorite ZZ Top song? What is your favorite ZZ Top Z
Memory? Please share in the comments.

I will leave you with this treat. The late great blues man John Lee Hooker with ZZ Top performing "Boom Boom."

Happy Birthday to Stevie Ray Vaughan

Today is the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan's 60th birthday. It has been two years since I devoted  a blog post to Stevie so I guess I am due to create another post. Here is a link to that post only one song out of three has lasted this long.

Here is an interview with Stevie..

Part of remembering someone is to hear about them in their own words. Plus fans may get some insight. A great thing about artists is their art lives on. Below he performs "Voodoo Chile"

Could you imagine him playing on one of the Experience Hendrix tours?

Above he plays his own song "Texas Flood" and below "Life by the Drop"

I think that song is a nice way to wrap up a tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan as I remember him on his birthday.

Football

Well this one will be brief. It looks like my fantasy football team will finally be back in the win column! I made a few moves to make up for some of my players who had a bye week.

I usually cover the Jacksonville Jaguars for Outside the Redzone but they were off this week. I also usually cover Georgia Tech but they were off. However, I did cover the Florida Gators at Vanderbilt Commodores football game. You can read my recap here.

Here are some highlights from that game...

My new college football rankings after week seven can be seen here. I have highlights from the Louisiana Tech-Texas A&M game on that site. Oklahoma won the Red River Rivalry game with Texas on Saturday here are some highlights from that game..

So I through in a couple of extra highlights of this weekends football action..

Stevie Ray Vaughan

21 years ago Stevie Ray Vaughan died. He died too young. I blogged about his death last year and you can read it here. It is a shame he passed away and it would have been interesting to see what kind of music he would have came out with.

He was great at covering Hendrix. Here he is performing Little Wing.

He also had some great songs which were his:

Even on the covers he embellished them, added to them and made them his own. However, in doing so he still was able to give a nod to the original artist. Being a blues artist, they all cover a lot of past artists.

Stevie is still missed 21 years later.
