This blog spot is the home to my ramblings. I am a free lance writer. Most of my work goes on Associated Content. Sometimes I write what is on my mind, sometimes I plug some of my writing, and sometimes a combination of the two. So, sit back read, enjoy, and we will see where it goes.
Busy times for Neil Young personally and musically. I don't judge to much on this blog. His former band mates same to judge a bit more. It is safe to say Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young aren't getting together anytime soon to jam.
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young..."Ohio"
Today is Neil Young's birthday is today and we celebrate it with music! Here is his latest song "Who is Gonna Stand Up"...
From now to way back with Buffalo Springfield performing with "Mr. Soul"..
Here he performs a vintage version of "Old Man"
To contrast here is something plugged in with Crazy Horse called "Like a Hurricane"
With Neil Young we could go on with songs heavy and light. Happy Birthday and thanks for the songs!
Today is Simon Le Bon's birthday. Flashing back to my youth, way back to my pop music youth. Duran Duran was one of the most successful pop bands of the 80s and Simon Le Bon was their lead singer.
Hungry Like the Wolf
Yes sit back and have a 80s flash back. Continuing with "Rio"
Yes John Lennon was in the Beatles, but his solo work is fantastic too.Above was his song "Beautiful Boy."
Today is John's birthday, he would have been 74 today. A Beatles song about 10 years off..
"Love" reflections on...
In the past I have paid tribute to John Lennon on his birthday and without looking I probably selected the typical top hits or popular songs. No excuses they are great! I just wanted to explore his greatness with some deeper songs.
Here is a treat "India":
Hope you enjoy! I will be back soon! Don't forget the next Battle of the Bands will be October 15!
Today is the birthday of Tori Amos. I can't believe she turns 51 today! I became a fan of hers through a friend. She shared the lyrics to "China" and I was hooked especially after listening to Little Earthquakes.
Here is China
This next song is simply beautiful and might be my favorite song by her. Check out 1000 Oceans..
I will confess I didn't like her with a band. Tori in my opinion is best with just her pianos or a guitarist accompanying her. But she is the artist and follows her own muse. Her latest album is more like the old, great stuff I liked the best.
Any way happy birthday and I look forward to more music!
In 2010 I wrote an article about the reasons Michael Jordan could be considered the best NBA player of all time. You can read that article here. There are some in NBA history who can challenge Michael Jordan for that top spot. Kobe Bryant is putting up a career that would challenge MJ's and Lebron James could best him when his career is over.It would be a true statement to say Michael Jordan is the best player in my memorable lifetime so far. If he was the best or not could be argued but one thing that is certain is Michael Jordan is an all time great of the NBA.
Here is a collection of some of highlights:
If you like dunks this is for you:
To this NBA Hall of Fame, NBA great, and current owner I say happy 51st!
Today I am going to celebrate two birthdays on my blog. John Hiatt turns 61 and Robert Plant turns 65. I thought I would pass on Plant since I covered his concert this summer and I had just posted about Led Zeppelin's birthday but I thought 65 was quite a milestone.John Hiatt is a great songwriter. The best way to celebrate these artists is through their music so sit back and enjoy..
Here is John Hiatt with Sonny Landreth (one of the best slide guitarists on the planet) performing a song B.B. King and Eric Clapton made famous "Riding with the King"
We will start the Robert Plant celebration with "In the Mood"
This song is perhaps my favorite John Hiatt song "Have A Little Faith In Me"
Yes this is a cover song, here is Robert Plant from his Honeydripper days.."Sea of Love"
Here is John Hiatt with a song you might know "Perfectly Good Guitar"
Here Robert Plant covers the beautiful "Song of the Siren" from his Dreamland project...
Here is John Hiatt performing "Thing Called Love" with the great Bonnie Raitt...
Stepping away from the covers with Robert Plant here is "Ship of Fools"
Both artists may be in their 60s but literally I could keep adding songs from both of them all day. I could go back to Roberts pre-Zeppelin days, or the Led Zeppelin days, continue on his solo years, I didn't even touch on his Alison Krauss project, or his new Band of Joy, there is simply so much. John Hiatt has written songs performed by Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Jimmy Buffett and many more. I shared a few songs but trust me he has written so many more gems. I thank them both for their music, I look forward to what music they might still create, and I wish them both a Happy Birthday!
Bob Dylan turns 72 today. How do you honor a man who has been covered, written many classic songs, has his own satalite radio show?
Reunite Guns and Roses to play this..
Well that's not going to happen. Make him cringe with Miley Cyrus covering him...
Here is John Mayer covering "Don't Think Twice"
Yes, I am having fun selecting some covers but I want to make sure they are different from other Bob covers I have included in past posts. Plus with artists like John and Miley is shows he is still touching younger generations of musicians and his legacy grows.Below is the man himself singing Happy Brthday and performing "Like A Rolling Stone" with Tom Petty's Heartbreakers...
Here Neil Young covers Blowin in the Wind...
and here is Norah Jones
Happy Birthday Bob Dylan! I hope everyone enjoys the music and I will be back soon with a new post
