Battle of the Bands: Results for Rocktober Fun!

I'll start with a confession. The idea of this song being chosen for my Battle of the Bands came from another cover of the song. I didn't use that version because they left an outburst from the artist which included some foul language. I'm sure most of my readers could have handled it, I am sure I would have put a disclaimer or warning up. I still like the version I just went in a different direction.

Interesting fact: Both vocalists in my Battles have passed away.

Poor Sam Kinison, with all the big name rockers appearing on the video and he still lost badly. The video I used left off the Rodney Dangerfield and Jon Bon Jovi  introduction. Adding Steven Tyler and Joe Perry didn't help. Slash, Steven Adler and Richie Sambora didn't help. Tommy Lee, C.C. DeVille, Billy Idol and more didn't save him.

The votes came in 9 to 2 in favor of The Divinyls!

We celebrate winners and today is know exception.

This song was named one of the top 30 Australian Songs of All Time..

This song was their biggest hit...

The above clip was from the Arsenio Hall Show. A fun show I enjoyed in my youthful years!

I will leave you with "Pleasure and Pain"

Thanks for visiting!  I will have some more Rocktober posts up soon. My next Battle will be November 1 which will be a new month. So visit then to see what I come up with.

R.I.P Lemmy Kilmister

Lemmy Kilmister the frontman, vocalist, bassist for Motorhead passed away this week at the age of 70.

Before Motorhead Lemmy was in Hawkwind...

                                                    "Silver Machine"

Of course Motorhead is where mst of his legendary career was made.

"Ace of Spades" this Motorhead cover with Dave Grohl and Slash...

A little acoustic Motorhead...

This is a post from Lemmy earlier this month...

It’s when you get to 60 when everything starts to go pear-shaped. Everyone thinks that becoming an older guy is easy, but you never consider it fully. It comes as quite a shock. But the thing is, I don’t want to give in to it.
“I’m sick of the f–king, ‘Are you going to die?’ line of questioning, It’s getting really old, that question. I’m alright. I’m going out there and doing my best. I have good days and bad days, but mostly I’ve been doing alright. The last tour of the States was very good.

Cancer sucks! May he rest in peace and rock out on the other side!

Remembering Les Paul

Six years ago the legendary musician and guitar innovator Les Paul passed away. I became a fan of his due to his legendary guitar he designed for Gibson the Les Paul. Since my guitar hero in my formidable years was Jimmy Page and Slash was the guitarist of the popular rock band Guns N Roses.

Les Paul's music was different and beautiful in it's own right. However, it was far from the hard rock sounds I had associated the guitar with.

"Waiting for the Sunrise" here is a clip from the Les Paul and Mary Ford Show...

Yes in this tribute I am going to share a bit of music so I hope you enjoy.

Do you have a favorite Les Paul song or memory? Thoughts on the guitar? Feel free to share in the comments. Thanks for visiting and I will be back with a new post soon!

Happy Birthday Slash!

Today Slash of Guns N Roses fame turns 50 years old! He was responsible for the many guitar riffs that filled my ears in my later years of high school and early college years.

Starting the celebration with "Sweet Child O Mine"

As my ears had gone from Eddie Van Halen to the older generations of Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Ritchie Blackmore well Slash was a modern guitar hero who in my eyes had that old guitar hero swagger.

Here he is with "Anastasia"  a solo song....

Here is Slash with a band called Velvet Revolver performing "Slither"

Here is a selection of someone's top ten list of Slash unforgettable moments...

Do you have any Slash moments or memories? Feel free to share in the comments...

I'll wrap this birthday celebration up with another Guns N Roses song..

"Welcome to the Jungle:

I hope you enjoyed your stay!

Happy Birthday Gibson

Yesterday marked Gibson Guitars turning 211 years old. I was turned onto Gibson Guitars by being a fan of Jimmy Page. However, a lot of my guitar heroes played Gibson at some point in their careers including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, B.B. King, Angus Young, Duane Allman, Slash and the list could go on.

Eric Clapton discusses a famous Les Paul...

Here is another video for you guitar geeks like me...

Well I hope Gibson continues to make guitars for years to come. I've been a bit slow on the blogs lately but I will have some new ones coming soon so stay tuned!
