October Battle of the Bands Results: Reba takes down Slowhand

Last month I paid tribute to Don Williams in my Battle of the Band competition. It was his song "Tulsa Time."  Eric Clapton had success with the song in the 70s so he was an obvious choice. Reba McEntire who is a country artist and quite different from Slowhand   so she was a good contestant.

Reba won convincingly 7 to 3 according to my readers! Like usual we celebrate the winners so here are a few tunes from Reba.

                                                   "Fancy"

                                                "Consider me Gone"

                                                   "What do you Say"

I have another fun fill Battle underway which features "Blueberry Hill" check it out here.

Battle of the Bands: Tulsa Time

I  gained inspiration for this month's Battle of My Bands through a post I did last month marking the passing of Country Music's gentle giant Don Williams. I thought of strange degrees of separation. He died on September 8, 22017 in Mobile, Alabama. About 6--70 miles away from me and a town that I visited on September 9.  I became familiar with his work through an artist I am a fan of which is not that strange for me. I become familiar with a lot of artists that way.

Anyway his song "Tulsa Time"

Contestant One: Reba McEntire

Contestant Two: Eric Clapton

Wrapping up this post on my phone. Keeping it simple. Vote for either Eric or Reba in the comments. I will count up the votes and pick a winner soon.

R.I.P Jesse Winchester

Bill Flanagan might have said it best about Jesse Winchester in the linear notes of the 2011 tribute album "I don't know anyone who dislikes Jesse Winchester's music. It seems to me there are only those who love it and those who have never heard it."

I sadly fell into the camp of not knowing him. I had the heard his name. More than likely I had heard his songs covered by the likes of Jimmy Buffett, Elvis Costello, Reba McEntire and more.

above he is with Jimmy Buffett below he is with Elvis Costello, Neko Case, ..

I found out about his death through Bonnie Raitt posting this video...

He is a talent that will be greatly missed. Perhaps his songs will be past on to future generations and he will leave behind a musical legacy.
