Flood Damage:Pensacola Manna Food Pantries

As you may have heard the Pensacola area has been hit with some flooding lately.

Many have insurance, many will be able to rebuild and replace. However, the Manna Food Pantry in Pensacola was wiped out. You can see a video here.

Luckily with help from Gulf Winds Federal Credit Union and the community of Pensacola the raised over 135,000 for repairs.

However, they still need help. They feed the hungry in our community and need our help so Pensacola doesn't have flood victims later when the hungry can't be fed.

A to Z: Share

I know I've written about Share before. However, it is something I have been doing now for 10 years. Waking up early on a Saturday once a month. One Saturday a month I get up early to drive an hour to help. Through the years I have met a lot of neat people by doing it. Here is an article I wrote about Share a couple of years ago, nothing much has changed.

I hope I can help with this program for 10 more years or more. For more information here is a link to their site.It helps communities get affordable food and encourages volunteering. It is a pretty neat program o see so many people come together.

Update and a little about SHARE

I am alive. Like my last post eluded to I am very busy writing away. I've already published more articles this month than all of last month. Then there are the other things I am involved with, family, and trying to squeeze as much skiing as I can before it is all gone.

I am enjoying writing more now since I do get to write about what I want to write about. Lately, I have written a few articles on non-profits so far most of them have been about ones that I am involved in or have been involved in which is a good thing.

My latest one on SHARE is no exception. SHARE is a great program which can save folks money on food and promotes volunteering. Both wonderful things. I find my time volunteering at SHARE to be better than church. Any way to learn more about SHARE read my article here.

The Cycle of A Good Deed

A while back I signed up for Kiva. It's a neat idea of micro financing. You loan $25 to a entrepreneur in a third world country. Your money is pooled with others, and the entrepreneur gets their loans. The loans are to help the entrepreneur's business, they can be for supplies, repairs, to pay wages, improvements, and the like.

Your paid back as the entrepreneur pays their loan back. Once it is paid back you are credited back the $25 you loaned. There is risk, as a few, a very few loans aren't repaid. However, my loan was paid back. She actually paid her loan off early. I had the option to cash out my $25, but I chose to keep the circle going and I loaned the money to another entrepreneur. I'm just happy to see it work.

For more on Kiva check out the article I wrote about them:

There are lots of things you could do with $25. You could easily spend it on diner, a movie, a concert, and you could donate it a charity. Did you know you could loan it to an organization to make philanthropic micro financing loans to help fight world poverty? (Link)

Reflections on Philanthropic Micro Financing

Reflections on my third paid article, Philanthropic Micro Financing Fights World Poverty. The title is a mouthful. I had a shorter title but they didn't like it, so the title was changed. It's an article, I truly belief can help make the world a better place. Here is the link to it. I'm proudest of this article for its potential. It provides awareness of the organization. It may move someone to check it out. It could move some one to act. Kiva is an organization where people can loan small amounts of money to help people in the third world. In the future, I hope to write more things which could have such a rewarding impact.
