Monday's Music Moves Me: Suicide Prevention

Today's  Monday's Music Moves Me is a freebie and since tomorrow is World Suicide Prevention Day I thought I would use that as a theme. It is one of those things people don't talk about but maybe through music we can have a conversation. Sometimes it is a kind word that pulls someone from the edge, sometimes it is professional help, and sometimes it is too late.

Let's start with Curt Kobain from Nirvana..."Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Chris Cornell... "Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart"

Chester Bennington of Linkin Park.. "In The End"

Richard Manuel of The Band..."The Shape I'm In"

The inspiration for me wanting to write a blog post on this subject comes from the passing of a talented guitarist, Neal Casal who passed away  on August 26 after playing one of the biggest music festivls in North America the LOCKN Festival in Virginia. Neal was a member of Ryan Adam's band The Cardinals, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Hard Working Americans, and Circles Around the Sun. He had played with Bob Weir, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Tift Merritt, Robert Randolph, and many more.

Nel with his song "Maybe California"...

I know there are other musicians who have committed suicide. I know many of my readers know people who have committed suicide. Perhaps someone who is struggling will find help through reading this post, or taking to someone. Maybe it will help someone hang on.

Battle of the Bands: Ann and Norah all tied up

My last Battle of the Bands featured two talented but different females singing a classic Soundgarden song. It was another tribute to Chris Cornell. If I wanted a girl to rock me it would be Ann Wilson. If I was in the mood for something more jazzy it would be Norah Jones. Hearing these two woman interpret Cornell's song really paid tribute to how well the song was created.

I enjoyed the Battle and I look forward to the next one. The results came in  with each artist getting three votes. The results are all done by the votes of my readers. That' s why I don't cast a tie-breaking vote.

Here is Ann Wilson in Heart...

Here is Norah Jones..."Come Away with Me"

Stay tuned I will have another Battle of the Bands coming up on June 15th. Please come back and vote on an all new Battle of the Bands.

R.I.P Chris Cornell

The above song was from Chris Cornell's last solo album and I really liked the song.It shouldn't be a surprise Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog all produced some cool songs.

Audioslave "Like A Stone"..

Soundgarden "Blackhole Sun"

Temple of the Dog "Hunger Strike"

Briliant artist, super artist, talented song writer. On the flipside a wife lost her husband, Children lost a Dad. A tragedy. Hopefully he will R.I.P.

Life can be stressful. Rockstar, writer, artist, and everyday people. Everybody goes through stuff. It is too late for Chris.

However, if you or someone is going through something. Get help.

Prince logo.svgThe results are in and Chris Cornell won. It started out looking like a landslide but the results ended up being close. Chris Cornell received 8 votes, All Angels stayed in the race with 6, and Sinead captured one even though she wasn't in the competition.

Hopefully my Battle on the 15th will be close as well or at least fun!

Chris Cornell the 2-time Grammy Award singer just earned another award! Battle of the Bands winner.

Here he is with Soundgarden with "Black Hole Sun"..

Audioslave...

His latest solo single..

Battle of the Bands: Nothing Compares 2 U!

Well the madness of the A to Z Challenge is over and it is back to the normal madness of another month and another Battle of the Bands.

Here are the rules: You pick the one you like best by casting your vote in the comments. I tally them up and I will announce the winner on the 7th.

Last month Prince past away, so I thought I would pick a song written by the artist. My choice for the battle is "Nothing Compares 2 U!." One is a tribute and one is a cover. The song was originally a hit for Sinead O'Conner. Her version is here for reference not in the contest.

Here is the Battle!

Contestant One: Chris Cornell...

Contestant Two: All Angels

Please vote in the comments and we will see who wins!  Late edit. I apologize this link didn't make it into the post. Please visit to check out who else has a great Battle going on.
