R.I.P Burt Bacharach

Legends continue to pass away, as the legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach died at the age of 94. Composing some of the best songs for over seven decades and winning six Grammy Awards along the way.

His first Grammy was for this piece "Alfie" performed below by Dionne Warwick....

He won a Grammy in 1999 with the song "I Still Have the Other Girl" with Elvis Costello

He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972, won a lifetime achievement Grammy Award in 2008 and won numerous awards in between.

"Close to You" Burt with Barbara Streisand

He will be missed by his fans, friend and family but his legacy will live on through his music.

Battle of the Bands: Always Something to Remind Me

Somehow I forgot about Battle of the Bands so I am scrambling to put it together. Somehow there is "Always Something to Remind Me."

The song was written n the 1960's by the legendary songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Dionne Warrick recorded it first. I am going to pit two well known versions of the song against each other.

Contestant One: Sandie Shaw

Contestant Two: Naked Eyes

Here are the rules: You pick the one you like best by casting your vote in the comments. I tally them up and I will announce the winner on Sunday April 24. Yes I am deviating on the result page due to the A to Z Challenge. .

Please check out the other battles I defer to the master list found on this site STMcC Presents 'Battle of the Bands'. It is also the place to sign up!

I will be back soon with the regularly yet to be written A to Z post.

R.I.P Hal David

Hal David who added the great lyrics to Burt Bacharach scores to create some of the greatest songs of all time in the 60's and 70's passed away at the sage of 91. Songs like "Do you know the way to San Jose?," "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head," "Close to You" and "What's New Pussycat" to just name a few. You can read his obit from the New York Times.here.

I watched a tribute to him and Burt from the White House on PBS back in May while I was on vacation. I highly recommend it. I enjoyed it with my parents and daughter and it only goes to show great songs can be enjoyed by generations.

Here is a recent celebration:

Bet you didn't know he was one of the song writers for this song...

This song was one of his favorites...

and the World still Needs Love...

Hal David was an incredible writer and he will be missed. Thankfully he left us so many songs may he rest in peace.
