Battle of the Bands: Summertime

 Gershwin's Summertime is a standard. The last time I used this song I battled with Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. The song has been covered so often. This battle I chose two more musical giants in Willie Nelson and Billie Holiday

                                                      Contender One: Willie Nelson

Contender Two: Billie Holiday

In the comments let me know who you like, in a week or so I will post about the winner.

Hey Mike,

I'm casting my vote for Willie Nelson. Have a bandtastic week, my friend!

Fabulous song choice! Of course, Billie Holiday was excellent, but Willie's version grabbed me from the get-go. I love everything about it - the poignant vocals, harmonica, guitar riffs... Willie all the way!

VOTE = WILLIE NELSON

Well. I confess I expected to give my vote to Billie Holliday due the 'classic' expectation of the more or less 'original' arrangement and style. But Willie won me over in short order. I love his mellow, conversational style.

Long time, no see! I liked both of these, but was drawn more to Willie Nelson's, so that's whee my vote goes.

Ordinarily, I like Willie Nelson's stuffs, but not this time. As my Brother noted while we were both listening to these songs, "Willie kind of gave it the ol' Johnny-Cash-Talk-My-Way-Through-The-Song approach." I agreed completely!

My vote goes to Billie,
and my brother Nappy's "rulin'" also goes to Billie.

Please chalk up two for Billie.

Stephen - my son and I went to see Willie this past April, and we noted that he 'talked his way' through most of the songs he 'sang.' We figured it was still purty durn good for a 90 year old.
