Monday's Music Moves Me: A Tribute to Otis Rush

Otis Rush the great blues guitarist passed away this weekend. I was going to pay tribute to him anyway so what the heck I'm combining that with my Monday's Music Moves Me post, you can certainly dance to the blues and the music has been moving people for years.

Starting off with "Double Trouble"...

A vintage live version of "My Sweet Little Angel"

"All Your Lovin'" with Eric Clapton..

"I Can't Quit You"

May he rest in peace. I hope you enjoyed the tunes and I will be back soon!

  1. Hey Mike!

Great tribute post! We also lost Marty Balin of Jefferson Airplane this week. I've been holding my breath waiting for #3 as they almost always happen in threes.

  3. Mike,

I don't know the name Otis Rush but I sure do dig his bluesy sound. I'm sorry to learn of his death even though he's a new introduction. Surely to goodness I've heard his mewsic and just don't remember? My brain works like that, you know? Anywho, I read that Otis is responsible for pioneering guitarist in Chicago blues scene. Rolling Stone names him as one of the 100 greatest guitarists. The same article states that Rush died from complications of his 2003 stroke. He was 84-years young. Man, he's four years older than my daddy. I hate getting reminders that my parents are also aging and they both have health problems. I liked all of the legend's mewsic selections you featured but I think my favorite might be "Double Trouble". I also enjoyed especially his accompanying partner Eric Clapton on "All Your Lovin'". Excellent dance mewsic, my friend. Thanks for sharing at the 4M party. Come boogie with me!

  7. I didn't hear the news and I had never heard of Otis Rush. Shame on me. I know the name now, alas, too late. These all featured some great guitar and, I guess in a way some of the playing reminded me of B B King (but obviously, Otis came first). Thank you for the musical education.
