Battle of the Bands: Labor Day Weekend Maggies Farm

Keeping in the Spirit of Labor Day I chose the Bob Dylan song "Maggie's Farm." Of course where this a Bob song there is always a few covers. I am going to lift my glass this weekend and I'm not going to work on "Maggie's Farm."

All right I mix it up with a couple of covers and you let me know which one you like the best in the comments.

Contender One: Solomon Burke

Contender Two: Rage Against The Machine

Quite different takes of Bob's song! Let me know which one you like best. Enjoy the Holiday I'll drink one for you!

Great song choice! That Dylan album - 'Bringing It All Back Home' - is not only one of my Top 10 favorite albums, but I discovered to my surprise, decades after the fact, that 'Bringing It All Back Home' was the most influential thing on my writing style. That was all seeping into my mind and out again on paper, unbeknownst to me.

Easy vote here for SOLOMON BURKE. He did a nice job with it.

To my amazement, I found that I liked the 30-second intro to the Rage Against The Machine recording, but as soon as the singer came in, the party was definitely over. He just took ALL of the fun out of that song!

Rage Against the Machine takes an interesting approach to this song, but they didn't sell me on it. Solomon Burke gives the song a greater sense of authenticity. Actually sounds like an old blues tune in his capable hands (and voice).

My vote goes to Solomon Burke.

Excellent battle! I really like both of them, but Solomon Burke spoke to me just a little bit more this time around. He gets my vote today.. tomorrow might be a different story :)

No contest here: Solomon Burke. His was much more entertaining than RATM's.

Mike,

Easy battle for me. I by far prefer Solomon Burke covering Dylan's song in this round. His recording I can see owning. Contender #2 destroyed the song and I mean that in a not so good way. I don't have a BOTB this time but will be back playing alone on the 15th. Have a bandtastic week, my friend!

Not even close on this one -- a great battle, by the way, with a great song!

Solomon Burke gets my vote!
